Welcome or welcome back to the website. I’ve decided to add a blog section to compliment the rest of the site. As some of you may know, we (everyone who works at Little Hero English) have already developed an entire interactive, touchscreen based English course which is currently used in many training centers across two countries now. However, that’s not the purpose of the blog. The company has grown to employ a few people now and what started as a simple pet project to provide a better learning and teaching experience, has truly becoming something great.
Last year, I left the troubleshooting of the program, new development and changes for customers; in the capable hands of my team. Then I did something crazy. I went back to Kindergarten. I must admit that juggling the responsibilities of an ESL company whilst working is certainly a lot to take on. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Going back many years, when we first moved overseas to teach English. Neither my partner or I had ever taught before. However we woke up one morning, assessed our current life and decided we wanted a change. On a whim, we joined a teaching internship program in China to see what its like. It took very little time before we both fell in love with teaching English as a second language. Let’s be honest, I’m so theatrical that teaching children just flowed naturally.

One of my first jobs was teaching in a kindergarten 5 days a week. This truly changed who I was as a person. Before then, I had very little experience with young children. Working in kindergarten with such young children honestly enriched my life. It gave me a purpose. For 4 years I found true happiness. The experience made me reailse I wanted my own children, it also made me appreciate how much we can do for the next generation. I did end up leaving Kindergarten to start Little Hero English. Whilst I could never regret that decision, as it has been a fantastic path; I never felt as happy as when I was teaching my tiny little humans.
To circle back around to why I have gone back to teaching in Kindergarten, the answer is simple: Because it makes me happy. The company can run itself. It doesn’t need me to micro-manage it. Instead, I’ve put myself back into a career that I truly and honestly love. The serendipity of that choice is that it provided the next step and direction for Little Hero English. As the kindergarten I now work at has a ‘no screen’ policy. This means the English ESL program that we spent years building was not an option to incorporate. It made me realise how much of the market we are missing out on. The ESL program is now being made into an offline program with physical flashcards, games, lesson plans and realia that can be taught in classrooms without access to computers, screens or even internet. It is also being made into a mobile APP (slowly…) We are also starting to develop a video based lesson that is for tiny learners with only perceived interaction. None of this will happen at once, but its well on its way.

“You wouldn’t believe it, but the first image on this page and the last image were taken more than 10 years apart. Yet the smile has never left my face.”
Back to the blog, I am naturally an extremely creative person. I’m also always looking for new ideas, games, teaching tools and anything else that brings excitement and fun to the classroom. So Ive decided that a blog is a good outlet to share this.
I hope you find some of the information on this blog useful. If you ever have any thoughts, questions or ideas please email me or leave a comment on the blog. Additionally, If you are ever thinking of teaching English overseas, feel free to contact me. My partner and I have now lived and taught in several countries across Asia and have a wealth of information we can share. I’ll probably make a separate post about this at some point.
That will do for now,
Shannon

Hi, The site looks great. I found the blog by accident, but ive bookmarked it to check back every so often. I looked at your demo software too. I might approach my school about this software as i think it can help.

Spot on Jason, I’d be pretty annoyed if I found out my child’s face was all over the internet.
